Preparing for the retreat

A healing retreat can be a great way to truly become vulnerable with the Lord and others you trust. A time to get in touch with the pain you may have stuffed deep within your heart and more likely did not know how to truly trust Jesus completely with.

Time away from the normal routine helps us to focus and get a wider perspective on our lives, but a key element in the success of the retreat is the preparation.

Sensible planning can help to maximize the potential benefits of the retreat.
A retreat can help us to escape from the stresses of everyday life.

Being on a retreat is a time for focusing on your inner life and relationship to God.

There will be scheduled and unscheduled time that include both group talks and quiet and free time.  All we ask is that you arrive for the retreat on time (check in starts at 1:45pm on Monday) and stay for the entire retreat.

90 days before the retreat

Start journaling every day. If you are not the type of woman who takes much pleasure in journaling simply sit down with a timer every night and write for 5 minutes only or more if you are inclined to do so. Focus on positive first, next focus on action and acceptance.
Read the Bible for 5 to 10 minutes each morning, and pray sincerely to the Lord. This is a great time to read one Psalm per day. If your world is crowded with pain, uncertainty and loss we would like to suggest the serenity prayer before or after you journal.

Taking our minds off the usual problems we face on a daily basis allows us to step back and helps us to see the things that are really important in our lives. A retreat can restore our inner peace and reestablish our relationship with the Lord, others and ourselves.

30 days before the retreat

Continue the above and read one Chapter in Proverbs each day.
Look at your health, your diet and your approach to food. Journal what you eat, bite by bite. This will build awareness and help you see more into your world as a wounded soul.
You can make this easy by purchasing a small notepad and keeping it in your packet.
If possible eat an extra fruit per day and an extra bowl of salad as you approach the retreat date.

Drink only water if you can and try to let go of soda by replacing it with seltzer water.

7 days before the retreat

Continue all the above. Pack!

Clothing

Casual dress and comfortable shoes are recommended. No need for high heels at a healing retreat unless that is what you want to wear to feel comfortable.

Toiletries

Bring all the necessary toiletries, but if possible pack only what you need. Less is more.

Meals/Snacks

We suggest you bring some fruit or healthy snacks with you to have something in between meals and a bottle for water. Shiloh will encourage you to drink at least 8 oz every hour during this retreat with lemon or oranges.  (Heads up!)

Your meals (breakfast and lunch) will be prepared in your cabin (you have a full kitchen), however we will be meeting for dinner each night in the main lodge. Several Grocery stores are within a few miles from our camp. Shiloh will send/post more information about this.

Time Management

Wake up is at 5:00 am for prayer, personal study and morning journaling during this retreat. 7 days before the retreat we suggest you go to bed at 9:00pm and wake up at 5:00am to make this an easier adjustment and to better benefit from your time at Discovering Me Retreat.
